Dr. Hong Chen is the Founder, Chairman and CEO of The Hina Group. With more than 60 professionals, and offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore and Silicon Valley, The Hina Group has become one of the most reputable investment banking and private equity firms in China. In 2008, The Hina Group has received numerous awards including "Best Investment Bank in 2008", “China’s 2008 New Economy Investment Enterprises Most Valuable Brand ” and “China Boutique M&A House of the Year ”. Dr. Chen received numerous awards including “Leadership Achievement Award”, “2008 China’s Top 10 Media Investors”, “2008 China Financial Leaders” and "Top 10 Chinese Global Investors."
Prior to The Hina Group, Dr. Chen was Founder, Chairman and CEO of GRIC Communications, and led its successful IPO on NASDAQ in 1999. Prior to GRIC, he was Founder, Chairman and CEO of Aimnet, a leading regional Internet service provider, which was sold to NTT/Verio in 1996.
Dr. Chen is a highly respected new economy leader in the Asia Pacific
community. Dr. Chen served as the President and Chairman of the
Asian American MultiTech Association (AAMA) in 2000 and 2001 respectively,
the largest Asia Pacific focused high-tech business and executive
association in Silicon Valley with over 1000 members. He served
as the founding president of Hua Yuan Science and Technology Association
(HYSTA) from 2000 to 2003, the most prominent club of mainland born
Chinese business leaders in Silicon Valley and China. He is a member
of Club 100, consisting of the top 100 famous and influential business
and thought leaders in China.
As one of the few mainland-Chinese oversea students who founded and brought his company to IPO on NASDAQ as CEO, Dr. Chen has received numerous awards. In 2008, Dr. Chen has been elected by the “Winning in the Future: Business Leaders” forum as one of 2008’s Top 30 Business Leaders of the Next 30 Years and Dr. Chen also awarded “China’s Top 100 Elites in 2008”.In 2007, CETV (China Education TV) documented Dr. Chen as one of the 20 national success stories of class of 1977 and 1978, in celebrating China’s 30th anniversary of resuming the university entrance examination after the Cultural Revolution. In 2000, Digital Weekly/Business Week of Taiwan named him one of the 100 most influential Chinese new world economy leaders. In 2001, China's CCTV cited Dr. Chen as one of the most successful Chinese in North America. In 1998, China's Committee for Oversea Chinese published a book naming Dr. Chen as one of the 30 most successful overseas Chinese worldwide. He has received an honorary professorship at Xi’an Jiaotong University. In 2002, Deloitte & Touche named GRIC as one of the 500 fastest growing technology companies in North America.
Dr. Chen received a Bachelor degree in Computer Science from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 1982 at the age of 19, and a Ph.D. in computer science from State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1991.
