Ker Gibbs is a Managing
Director of The Hina Group, based in the firm’s Shanghai office.
Mr. Gibbs first came to China in 1985 and has been working in China
and the greater Asia region for most of the past twenty years. He
has been involved in a number of transactions and has deep operational
experience with publicly traded companies as well as high growth
enterprises.
Before joining The Hina Group he was Chief Executive Officer of
MyETone Ltd., a leading E-commerce company providing consumer product
reviews and interactive discussion platforms (user generated content)
in China. In that role he led the acquisition of a company that
was controlled by a state owned enterprise, the Shanghai Media Group.
As a result of the acquisition MyETone became the market leader
in the category.
Prior to MyETone Mr. Gibbs was Vice President for Asia Pacific
with Secure Computing (NASDAQ: SCUR), a leading provider of network
security solutions. He was responsible for overall business operations
in the region with six regional offices reporting to him. Over the
course of four years he grew headcount and revenue substantially
and left it as one of the company’s best performing regions.
Mr. Gibbs has been involved with a number of internet start-up
companies, including NBC Internet where he served as President and
Chief Operating Officer of the company's Hong Kong based joint venture.
He worked with NBCi's executive team to structure the venture and
managed local operations throughout Greater China and the rest of
Asia. He served on the board of directors of NBCi Asia as well as
all local joint ventures and subsidiaries. Prior to NBC Internet
Mr. Gibbs worked for Infoseek, a portal/search engine company based
in Silicon Valley. He managed the Infoseek Japan business as well
as other business development projects. Infoseek went public on
Nasdaq and was later sold to the Disney Company.
Before his internet ventures Mr. Gibbs spent six years with Apple
Computer. He started his career in Apple’s Cupertino headquarters
before being transferred to Japan, then later Hong Kong where he
was appointed Managing Director of Apple's Hong Kong based software
subsidiary.
Mr. Gibbs holds an undergraduate degree in economics from UCLA
and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of
California, Berkeley. He is a Mandarin speaker and has studied Korean
and Japanese.
