Mr. David Chen is a Managing Director of the Hina Group and the head of the firm's Shanghai office. Mr. Chen comes from a deep financial and operating background. Prior to joining The Hina Group, Mr. Chen was the head of Corporate Development in China at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), where he helped the semiconductor company pursue strategic investments, M&A, and alliances within China. Notably, he led the transfer of AMD's x86 technology to the government of China and Peking University, structuring and executing the deal.
Prior to AMD, Mr. Chen was a principal at Flatirons Capital Advisors, a boutique private placement and M&A advisory firm that focused on technology and cross-border transactions. Before that, Mr. Chen founded and managed technology start-ups and led strategy, operations, and business development activities. Mr. Chen began his investment-banking career at Salomon Brothers in New York where he focused on technology and power companies. He advised his clients on a variety of financings and M&A transactions including American Electric Power's $6.6 billion acquisition of Central & South West Corporation. Subsequently, Mr. Chen joined Merrill Lynch's media investment banking group where he covered entertainment companies.
Mr. Chen received a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Rochester and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
